Did you know they specialize in catering for difficult people like us? The ones who are dairy and gluten intolerant? I am the dairy free sort. Last time I had mussel fritters there - utter perfection! This Friday had fish and chips and for a sweet, a fantastic blueberry slice that was both dairy, and, gluten free ! I haven't stopped telling everyone how much I enjoyed my meal and how finally I have found somewhere to eat out where I can get a totally dairy free meal01/10/17
I have been going to Cafe Sandspit for 14 years now.The place is back to its normal buzzing state thanks to Maree Pickett who has taken over not so long ago.The coffee is just perfect for a fussy coffee drinker like me and the food is also the best.I have tried the smoked salmon benedict and it was delish (with salmon smoked in house of course....) I also love the chips they make (it is hard to find the perfect chip in the area, but theirs is on the top of my list. They also have gluten free options and the view...just incredible- no one can beat their view!!!!Thank you Maree and team, you make all us locals, extremely happy.05/07/18
Congrats to the New Owners of Sandspit Cafe.
We thoroughly enjoyed our "all day big breakfast" yesterday and can confirm that it did last all day!
Meals were extremely generous, tasty and fresh. Atmosphere was inviting, family orientated, service was great and staff were friendly and welcoming.
All the best to the new owners and the team!
Use it or lose it. Good coffee and food. Great location - sit outside with your coffee and watch the boats and wildlife. The food is a bit expensive but it must be quite hard making a living here as Sandspit is a quiet spot for most of the year. Friendly, eager to please staff. The interior furnishings could do with a bit of a spruce up but tight profit margins will make that a bit hard.16/01/20
A Worthwhile Destination A long holdays weekend. We often drive a little distance to a eatery we feel comfortable. This weekend was a great opportunity to find a new destination. We are so pleased to have found Cafe Sandspit. We felt relaxed and comfortable with the friendly welcome and ushered to a table with the menu.
The menu was interesting and well complimented with the specials on the black board.
My wife is particularly fussy when it comes to fish .. she truly enjoyed the snapper and it's presentation.
I had eggs benidict with bacon. The bacon was well worth noting. The coffee was excellent.
It was so nice to arrive at a cafe and not stand at the counter to order .. the staff are professional with a laid back quality that is the winning recipe.
We will be back .. a worthwhile destination.
Service is good, food is good, good coffee, breath taking ocean views. What's not to like? Good stop off from sight seeing the owners are personable people and hey it's New Zealand which to an American like me is like stepping out into an unspoiled portion of the planet just keep it that way ok Kiwis?06/08/17
